Good morning,

I wish to inform you of the modus operandi by some lawless people around here in Kuwait. I would like you to know how they make money through some well-orchestrated scam.

I received a call in the morning from a lady. She claims to be from Alghanim Electronics. She told me that I won a SAMSUNG SII from their 'Raffle Draw' which is valid only for the day. If I don't get my prize, it will be forfeited. She then asked my name and address. She insisted that I should contact her through the phone number she was using. She used a landline phone which was not the landline phone of Alghanim.

She told me over the phone that I will only be able to have my Prize (Samsung SII) and other prizes if I will not give them 32 KD. I asked her why I should give 32 KD if I already won the item. She told me that I am going to received another items such as TV, REFRIGERATOR, and other appliances on a 'monthly basis' without any cost at all. Aside from that she said that I was going to receive coupons containing discounts from several establishments. Such discounts are 15 KD discount from Car Wash. Others will be 20 KD discount from a certain salon (again another catchy discount). The coupon discount would total to 500 KD.

I went to Alghanim and asked one of the salesman whether they have such a promo. I was informed that there was no such promo and it was a scam. After this, I decided to meet the person who is going to deliver my prize. This way I will be able to take a picture of the person as well as all other information which I can collect and possibly inform Alghanim about the scam ruining their name.

I meet the person (driver) only in the 'street' in order for him not to identify my house location. Since the person does not speak English, he called his boss from their office and the boss spoke to me over the phone. When I asked for their Company ID or Civil ID number, both of them refused to show it to me.

While i was conversing with the boss, I kept taking pictures of the car, plate number, the driver, the Samsung SII, and the paper bag which has a name Alghanim on it. I also get hold of the coupons worth 500 KD in total, which was beautifully printed in color and in glossy finish.

After several minutes of discussing with the boss over the phone, they have sensed that I am just taking information about them. I felt the driver getting restless. I then just let him go and let him bring along all his FAKE PRIZES.

I proceeded to some other directions from my house in order to confuse him of my exact house. I did not give my exact house location during the phone conversation with the lady in the first instance.

I called the Alghanim hot line number and inform them about the scam, however I was informed that this scam was already identified by Alghanim's management. She never bothered to get the information such as the plate number and the picture of the driver.

Herewith attached the pictures of the:

    Fake Samsung SII, take note of the spelling written on the phone- SUMSMUG

    Paper Bag with Alghanim's name on it to look like they are really from Alghanim.
